Vancouver-based artist Marina Roy's cross-disciplinary art practice investigates the intersection between materials, history, language and ideology. Acting as a bridge between clture adn nature, ethics and drive, Roy's work is based on research into psychoanalysis, bio politics, human-animal distinction, feminism, allegory, art history and linguistics. In her artist talk, Roy will speak about her practice and to the works on view until March 25 as part of the exhibition Becoming Animal/Becoming Landscape.

Artists Talk with Laura Findlay @ Kamloops Art Gallery

Join artist Laura Findlay in our studios to learn more about her research and painting practice. Findlay’s exhibition in The Cube, Moving While Looking at Things That Do Not Move, includes an array of objects with cylindrical imagery and textures meant to be observed from all sides, revealing the static but shifting landscape of vessels.

 

Through these works, Findlay questions the current role of history painting through notions of narrative, empathy and the sublime. Following her talk, Laura Findlay will lead a hands-on workshop in our studios.

Join us for our fourth annual blindfolded face-off! Drawing on the theme of transformation, contestants will be assigned two random subjects (say, a dishwasher and an elephant) and tasked with creating a drawing of one transforming into the other in 60 seconds or less—while blindfolded. Yes, we know this task is nearly impossible. That’s the point (and what makes these events fun). Participants will be judged on their costumes, performances and their completed drawing. The winner will be awarded a solo exhibition on our BMO Open Gallery in October 2017.

Not interested in participating? Join the Art Duel Peanut Gallery! Heckle contestants as they fumble through their tasks, cheer for your friends and dance to the live DJ set. Free snacks and a cash bar will be open throughout the event.
