In Home Violence - A Teen's Perspective @ Kamloops Arts Council's Main Gallery

SAAVI or Sisters Allied Against Violence is an Art Therapy group for young women who have witnessed or experienced violence and abuse. They are within the age of 13 to 17 years old. This group is run by The Children Who Witness Abuse (CWWA) program as part of the YWCA. This group of young women benefit from the strength of sisterhood when they gather together to begin to heal from their experience of violence through creative expression. Through the use of imagery, colour, shape and texture as part of their creative therapeutic process these artists express their thoughts and emotions as they gain knowledge and insight on violence and abuse and in this way they change the cycle of violence in their life. The KAC Main Gallery is open 10-5, Tuesdays to Fridays, and 10-4 on Saturdays. This art gallery has no admission.

The Kamloops Festival of the Performing Arts

The Kamloops Festival of the Performing Arts unofficially started in February 1930 by a group of businessmen and one woman who met to discuss the possibility of a musical festival for Kamloops. Many meetings were held, sometimes with  as many as fifty people present. The first festival was realized in May, 1931. Since then it has gone through many ups and downs and now lasts almost 3 weeks with some days having three halls in use! The Festival certainly has a decidedly important role to play in the cultural growth of out city, giving young artists the possibility to explore and expose their widespread talents.
