Rail Travel in Kamloops, British Columbia

 

Kamloops is home to two major national railway tracks: Canadian National Rail and Canadian Pacific Rail. There are only two places in Canada where the two tracks intersect inside city limits, and Kamloops is one of them.

 

Rocky Mountaineer

Railways have been a significant part of Kamloops'  heritage since the 19th century, and the trains continue to appeal to locals and visitors alike. Coming from Highway #1 East, take exit 374 to Jasper; get into the left lane immediately and make your first left turn on River St.  Follow River St. and make a right on Lorne St.  Make a right into the Keg Steakhouse and Bar parking lot.

VIA Rail

Kamloops is home to VIA Rail — a passenger service operating trains across Canada over a network spanning the country from the Atlantic to the Pacific, and from the Great Lakes to Hudson Bay. VIA Rail also makes regular stops in Kamloops as part of its train travel packages across the Rockies and beyond.

How to get to the VIA Rail Station in Kamloops, BC

Coming from Highway #1 East, take exit 374 to Jasper; follow the highway past three sets of lights and turn left at CN Junction Rd.

Kamloops Heritage Railway

The historic 2141 Steam Train offers year-round fun for the whole family — from the spooky thrills of the Ghost Train and the magic of Christmas (with Santa and his elves) on the Spirit of Christmas train, to regularly scheduled tours that re-enact a famous turn-of-the century Bill Miner train robbery.
