2011 Western Canada Summer Games in Kamloops, British Columbia

Canada's Tournament Capital has added another gemstone to its crown.  The City of  Kamloops is officially announcing the kick off to its campaign of hosting the Western Canada Summer Games in August of 2011 (Aug 5-14).  The Western Canada Summer Games is dedicated to the development of excellence in sport by the four western provinces and three territories: British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Nunavut, Northwest Territories and the Yukon Territory . These Games are Western Canada ’s largest multi-sport competition for young athletes and are an integral part of its Long Term Athlete Development Model.                                               WCSG 2011

The Western Canada Summer Games were first held in 1975 in Regina, Saskatchewan with the four western provinces ~ British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba ~ competing. In 1983, Yukon and the Northwest Territories joined in and 2003 saw the addition of Nunavet. The 2011 Games will be held in  Kamloops, British Columbia   where athletes range in age from 13 to 23. 

 “The entire region will benefit from the significant economic impact of these games,” said MLA for Kamloops-North Thompson Kevin Krueger. “We look forward to welcoming thousands of athletes, coaches, officials and spectators in 2011.”
