Fossil Tours in Kamloops, British Columbia

Kamloops, British Columbia is located on the Intermontane Plateau and is the meeting place of the North and South Thompson Rivers which flow into Kamloops Lake. The cliffs at McAbee expose an upper layer of volcanic rock above a pale grey layer of mudstone that contains the fossil beds. The McAbee fossil beds are truly a unique gem in Kamloops and offer incredible opportunities for people to dig for fossils.

How to Get to the McAbee Fossil Beds

The fossil beds are privately operated and tours are available in July and August. During the shoulder seasons of May through June and September through October, tours can be arranged in advance. The McAbee fossil beds are located on the TransCanada Highway 65km west of Kamloops or 13 km east of Cache Creek. Heading west, keep a look out for a sign on the north side of the highway 5km east of Juniper Beach Provincial Park.
