Communities in Bloom
Friday, September 22nd, 2006
The City of Kamloops is the winner in the Very Large Municipality category of the International Challenge of the 2006 National Edition of Communities in Bloom. Kamloops was competing with Aberdeen, Scotland; Rockford, Illinois; Edmonton, AB; Toronto, ON; and Halifax, NS.

Kamloopians take pride in the spirit of their city with its quality of life. The celebration of the revitalization of McDonald Park was a perfect example of this remarkable community pride.

The judges, Maurice Baren and Margaret Stinson, who evaluated the City of Kamloops, were most impressed with the involvement at all levels in the community. The pride, sense of community and feeling of accomplishment was most pleasant to note. The whole community excelled in all criteria; tidiness effort, urban forestry, landscaped areas, floral displays, turf and groundcover areas, environmental awareness, heritage preservation, and community involvement.

Kamloops was also honoured with the Scotts Turf Builder Award - for its leadership in the field of turf management practices.

The on-going participation of the City in the Communities in Bloom Program has contributed greatly to making Kamloops a better place in which to live, work & to visit.

To quote Mayor Terry Lake "Communities in Bloom has made us a better community. The spirit and confidence in Kamloops has grown every year of the program and of course, the City looks fantastic".
