Kamloops Air Service Upgrade
(Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada) – Seasonal flights from Seattle, Washington to the city of Kamloops and Sun Peaks Ski Resort will resume December 15th with service by Horizon Air. The 37-seat Q200 will fly the route until January 28, 2007 when it will be upgraded to the 74-seat Q400. The Q400 turboprop flies at nearly jet aircraft speed and it is a relatively quiet aircraft. Along with more passenger capacity there is more baggage space, ideal for skis and snowboards.
Winter is a magical time in the Kamloops area with perfect conditions for skiing, boarding, snowmobiling and ice fishing. More than 2,000 hours of sunshine make Kamloops a perfect location for just about any winter sport one can imagine. The Kamloops Snowmobile Association is well known for its hospitality to new members and visitors. The focal point for club activities is the Tranquille Lake Area, half an hour from town up the Lac du Bois Road. The chalet at the 31.5 kilometre point on this road is the hub for 70 kilometres of groomed intermediate trails that lead to meadows, lakes, roads and cut blocks on the Bonaparte Plateau. Snowmobile rentals are available in Kamloops and guided tours are offered at Sun Peaks Resort.
Centrally located in southern British Columbia only a 45 minute drive from Kamloops, Sun Peaks is a ski in and ski out alpine village with 3,678 acres of terrain, the second largest ski area in B.C., and the third largest in Canada. 12 lifts including 3 high speed quad chairlifts, 2 quad chairlifts, 1 triple chairlift, and 6 surface lifts move 12,000 riders per hour. Simply translated, it means lots of terrain and no crowds. There is a brand new quad chair on Tod Mountain, a new animated Kids Ranch Learning Centre at the top of the Platter Lift, the new Umbrella Café at Mt. Morrisey, and the addition of a Piston ‘Terrain Park’ Bully groomer to the fleet of snow cats.
For the culture minded, winter is also the time to enjoy Kamloops’ Western Canada Theatre, one of the finest production companies in British Columbia and The Kamloops Symphony Orchestra which headlines major soloists and programs from September through May.
In Kamloops its easier to do business, easier to access the great outdoor and now with the upgraded flights, getting to Kamloops this winter is easier too.
