Put your latest project on hold for an out of office escape to Kamloops where cozy sweaters, tasty eats and the burgeoning arts and culture scene will warm your inner bits. Drop the standard “netflix and chill” weekend for live theatre and eats that go far beyond dry popcorn.

The Show Must Go On

The 2021/22 season at Western Canada Theatre is kicking off right. From deep belly laughs to tearful, heartfelt stories, Western Canada Theatre is ready to open the curtains for you. It all starts with a 2-day performance of Trace, an exhilarating production that maps Anishinaabe sky and star stories through inspirational Indigenous storytelling and cutting-edge dance. Chelsea Hotel: The Songs of Leonard Cohen will also be back to hit the stage alongside childhood classic The Wizard of Oz and iconic Kim’s Convenience.

Artfully Inspiring

Immerse yourself within Kamloops’ burgeoning arts and culture scene at the Kamloops Art Gallery (KAG), which holds a national reputation for its exhibitions and programs. View the works of the two latest exhibitions - Injustice and Identity and Whose Stories? - on display at the Gallery until December 2. Injustice and Identity by Jana Sasaki includes early photo and test-based work that addresses the KAG’s history of Japanese internment and the complexities of Jana's family’s mixed-race or Hapa identity. Featured in the Central Gallery, Whose Stories? shares the work of six artists of Asian descent that reflects on experiences and narratives of “others'' across generations through video installation, photography, drawing, collage, and more.

Dynamic Duo - Shopping & Dining

Book your taste buds for a trip around the world with a foodie tour on the North Shore. Choose from seasonal coffees at a cozy cafe, international eats, family-friendly dining, and innovative craft brews at a microbrewery or taphouse. Compliment your dining with a little retail therapy and cross off that Christmas list early. Visit local, specialty shops like Surplus Herby’s for the outdoor enthusiast, Harmonie’s Antiques & Collectables for the antique collector or Heather’s Fabric & Quilt Shoppe for the crafty person. Chillax with a stroll along the Rivers Trail, a free game of mini golf at McArthur Island Park (don't forget your putter and balls), or take in a live music or comedy show at The Effie Arts Collective.

Let's Get Social! (Safely)

If you have a craving for a fresh dining experience, look no further than Browns Socialhouse. Socialize with your colleagues (code word: “safety meeting”), close friends, or family, as you tip back a tasty Social Lagers or Social Sodas. Select from their diverse menu that also include vegan and gluten free options like Crispy Fried Chicken Ramen, Baja Fish Tacos, Impossible Hollywood Burger… hopefully you’re reading this around lunch time. Finish off with an Oreo Jar dessert - whipped oreo cheesecake with crushed oreos.

"Chill"-axing Sleeps

If “chill” is top priority for your getaway (we get it), The Hue Hotel has hue covered. Towering six stories in the Aberdeen area of Kamloops, this modern-style boutique hotel serves up beauty views in their uber convenient location.

Relax (or whatever you do at night) up the hill in comfort with plush beds, contemporary rooms and suites, and free breakfast at the Fairfield Inn & Suites. Conveniently located near all amenities, the Aberdeen Mall, and Kenna Cartwright Nature Park for hiking, the Fairfield Inn will keep you connected and refreshed all weekend long.

Putting their best foot forward! The Best Western Plus, a 4 Green Key rated hotel with geothermal heating, is located smack dab in the middle between uptown and downtown Kamloops. Take a dip in the saltwater pool and a soak in the hot tub (no funny business) before sliding into a plush bed to chill. Don’t forget to fuel up with their breakfast in the morning before a day of adventure - we encourage sleeping past 6am, it’s your time off after all!
