Fall Colours Drive and Hike

If you are looking for a beautiful and energetic way to see the fall colours, this is the Kamloops Day Trip for you! It features a scenic drive through a peaceful and rustic back road, offering the opportunity to view the vibrant reds, oranges, yellows, greens and browns of the fall-coloured trees, bushes and hills, as well as the opportunity to hike among the autumn splendour.

To start this journey, grab some friends or family, a pair sturdy outdoor shoes and a fall jacket, hop in your car, and head towards Knutsford on the Highway 5A. Take Long Lake Road until the first public road to the right, Goose Lake Road. Drive along Goose Lake Road, taking the time to enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of fall around you. Be sure to stay on the road and not trespass on private property. Goose Lake Road will join up to Lac Le Jeune Road, where you can decide to follow it to spectacular hiking trails at McConnell Lake or Stake Lake. With an area covering 45 km of trails, you can hike around the lake at McConnell or venture to nearby Stake Lake for extensive trail systems. After the hike, or if you’re just out to enjoy the scenic drive, you can take Lac Le Jeune Road or the Coquihalla Highway (5) back into town. With stunning scenery, fall colours and great exercise, be sure to take a camera because these picturesque moments are ones you won’t want to forget!

Nine, Dine, and Wine

This Kamloops Day Trip is for those looking to take advantage of the long golf season in Kamloops, as well as enjoying delicious local food and beverages along the way. This day trip has two amazing options to choose from, or you can have double the fun and try both!

Option 1:

Start your day with an early breakfast and tee time at The Dunes at Kamloops golf course. The Clubhouse offers a full breakfast menu with specials available on weekends. Once on the course, with its lush fairways and surrounded by wild fescue and wheat grass, you can play 9 (or 18) holes while enjoying the best that nature has to offer at the same time. Next, head over to Privato Vineyard and Winery to sample their chardonnay and pinot noir, and pick up a bottle of your favourite to enjoy later. From there continue along Westsyde Road to the McLure Ferry and take the short ferry ride across the scenic North Thompson River. On the way back, pick up some fresh fruit at Carl’s Garden Market, and head back into town, picking up some meat and cheeses at a local deli, to enjoy a picnic with all your local treats and a delectable glass of well-crafted local wine to top it off!

Option 2:

Start with an early afternoon tee time at Sun Rivers Golf Resort or Rivershore Estates and Golf Links. Enjoy 9 (or 18) of unforgettable golf amidst a backdrop of natural sage, hoodoos, and rolling hills. You will enjoy the game, the panoramic views of the Thompson River valleys, and you might even catch a glimpse of some bighorn sheep grazing nearby. After the round, head to Harper’s Trail Winery to taste a variety of delicious, high-quality local wine, picking a bottle of your favourite to take along with you. Drive back into town along Shuswap Road, taking in the stunning scenery of Kamloops’ vast, rugged landscape and the picturesque South Thompson River. Finally, enjoy a mouth-watering meal at one of the many local restaurants in town, taking advantage of the recently introduced BYOW option to enjoy your Harper’s Trail wine with dinner.

Fall Family Fun

This Kamloops Day Trip is for families looking for something new, different and exciting to do together. The trip would be best done on a Saturday, since all the different attraction ideas will be open that day. On other days of the week, substitutions can be made with one of many fall attractions and activities in Kamloops.

To begin this Saturday adventure, head to Tranquille Farm Fresh in the morning for their Saturday farmers’ market. While there, be sure to test yourselves in the corn maze and take one of their fascinating tours (often best to choose and book tickets in advance – family pricing is available for most events)! After exploring the property, stroll through the fresh, local products at the market, picking up some supplies for a picnic later in the afternoon.

Next, drive back towards town to the BIG Little Science Centre for some interactive family fun and learning! With over 140 hands-on stations plus shows and activities on Saturdays, there will be lots of different things to entertain each member of your family.

After plenty of science experiments and fun, head to Riverside Park for a family picnic with the delicious food picked up from the market. Let the kids play on one of the playgrounds in the park, or bring a soccer ball or Frisbee to pass around. Don’t miss wandering along the Rivers Trail, taking in all the colours of autumn and the beautiful river views. It’s a great opportunity for a family photo, so bring a camera along and snap some shots! It’s a day that the family won’t soon forget!

Board, Bike & Brew Tours

If you and your friends are looking to go out and have some fun, this Kamloops Day Trip is for you! Get the group together and start the afternoon with a pre-booked Board & Bike Tour with Paddle Surfit. For the first hour and a half, you’ll feel exhilarated on a mountain bike tour through the trails of Heffley Lake, enjoying the lush green scenery as you whizz through the trees. Next, you’ll refresh yourselves with an hour and a half paddle board tour of the lake itself, taking time to check out the changing colours of the trees around the lake and keeping an eye out for wildlife as you try out your skills on the board.

Head back into Kamloops and get ready to go out on the town for a self-guided brew tour. You can pick up a copy of the tour brochure from the Kamloops Visitor Centre or download one from http://www.tourismkamloops.com/brewery-tours-in-kamloops-british-columbia. You’ll visit five different downtown restaurants or pubs within easy walking distance of each other, enjoying everything from delicious locally-brewed beers to beloved international rarities and favourites. Watch for seasonal specialty beers to welcome and celebrate fall!

With boarding, biking, and brews, everyone will be having a blast!

A Date to Remember

If you and your partner are looking for a romantic and exciting way to spend the day together, then this is the Kamloops Day Trip for you!

Start the afternoon on a pre-booked trail ride at Jandana Ranch or Erin Valley Riding Stables. Whether a new or experienced rider, you will be paired with a horse to suit you and experienced guides will lead you along, leaving you and your other half to relax and enjoy the stunning sights and sounds of fall surrounding you.

For dinner, head to one of the many exquisite local restaurants. Consider a wine pairing dinner at Brownstone or Terra Restaurant. Both of these offer a unique dining experience with 3 to 5 mouth-watering courses, each paired with a delicious local wine. Call to discuss your options.

Next, treat yourselves to a live theatre performance by Western Canada Theatre Company. This company produces several plays throughout the fall and winter season, so you’ll have a number of great options to choose from!
