The first three months of 2013 have proven to be very busy for the Tourism Kamloops Team.  When many seem to believe that things are “quiet” this time of year, our team is fervently beginning to roll out marketing initiatives and campaigns that will put Kamloops at the forefront of many making vacation decisions for the upcoming year.

Many of you have received a copy or copies for distribution of our 2013 Vacation Planners, 2013 Golf Guides, 2013 Kamloops Kids Map and 2013/2014 Tear Maps.  If you have not received your publications, or if you are interested in distributing these brochures please contact us.  Our Tourism Kamloops family of publications is available online for viewing and downloading.

Meghan Grant has been attending several consumer shows in BC and Alberta speaking directly with consumers about Kamloops’ tourism offerings and experiences.  Click here for completed consumer show details.

Kris Austin and Kendel Lavallee have been working closely with the Fresh Inc. and Think! Social Media teams to create this year’s spring and summer marketing campaigns.  This may explain why some of your guests are coming from certain destination during certain times in the year.  Be sure to check in regularly as we will share with you on a monthly basis where are marketing efforts are being targeted!

Lisa Strachan has been preparing for the tour operator season and was in Vancouver in April doing sales calls to receptive tour operators.  Lisa is always looking for new product ideas, events and any changes that you may be doing to your properties or attractions to promote to the travel trade.  Lisa and Lee are also attended Rendezvous Canada in Ottawa May 12 – 15th.  This international travel trade marketplace allowed Tourism Kamloops to meet with many tour operators in face to face, prescheduled business meetings to pitch Kamloops tourism products, experiences and to assist in creating exciting travel itineraries for their customers.  Please chat with Lisa if you would like to learn how you can become more involved with the travel trade.

The Communications department has been undergoing a big transition the first part of 2013.  With efforts focusing on recreating a dedicated Media website specifically targeted as a resource portal for journalists, bloggers, photojournalists and travel writers.  The site will contain story ideas, interesting Kamloops facts, a link to Tourism Kamloops’ image gallery and You Tube sites as well as a link to our Twitter feed.  The more easily travel media can assess information about what is happening in Kamloops, the easier it is for them to talk about and feature Kamloops as a great vacation destination.  We are also building our media database to continue to send out our Kamloops stories and we have recently contracted Tartan Communications to assist in recreating our media kit and help us to align all of our communication efforts both direct to the travel media and to the consumer through outlets such as our blog, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube.
