Autumn is arriving and bringing a cozier time of year to Kamloops. Get outside and explore the great outdoors before heading indoors to fuel up for fall at a local restaurant with hearty menu items from handcrafted burgers to spiced squash dishes.
Get a taste of local bounty with the Bacon-Wrapped Elk Meatloaf with mushroom-brandy sauce and buttermilk mashed potatoes, which also features a brassica salad made with local produce. The restaurant receives twice-weekly deliveries of local produce from garlic and potatoes to squash and broccoli, shallots, leeks, and cabbage. The Red Wine Braised Beef Shank is served with roasted local vegetables from SSOL Gardens, and Mendel and Paula Rubinson's farm, as well as a gremolata, made with horseradish grown by the chef himself. Many of the herbs used in the warmer months and early fall dishes are either grown onsite in the garden courtyard or brought in by Chef Jarrod, who has a large and diverse urban garden of his own.
Red Beard Cafe
Leave room for the comforting Red Beard’s Game Burger, which is made with ground venison mixed with local ground duck from the Chop N Block, to keep it juicy on the grill. This game-changer burger is topped with onions, which are cooked down with balsamic and red wine braised mushrooms, then it’s finished with Okanagan smoked cheddar and Chipotle mayo made from scratch in-house. House-made triple-cooked potato wedges are crispy and crunchy on the outside and soft and pillowy on the inside, and perfectly paired with blueberry-balsamic ketchup.
Bright Eye Brewing
Bite into Bright Eye’s take on a classic dish with Elk Bangerz & Mash, which features elk bratwurst, braised red cabbage, mashed potatoes, and Dijon onion gravy. Back by popular demand, the brewery’s original opening dessert (Happy Camper) has returned to the menu, bringing an explosion of chocolate lava cake, toasted marshmallows, and vanilla cream poured over top.
