It’s time to treat your elf and the family this upcoming holiday season in Kamloops. Create new family traditions or get back to your old ones, have your dishes ready with tasty local eats, and shop ‘til you drop.
BC Wildlife Park
Family traditions are back this year, even if they still look a little smaller. The Annual Wildlights Festival is back at the BC Wildlife Park from Dec 10 – Jan 3 from 4pm-9pm daily (closed Christmas Day). View over 1 million lights, walk through the Tunnel of Lights, warm up by the fire pits with a rich cup of cocoa, and be sure to stop in at the Home Hardware Family Farm. Newly upgraded paved pathways, make for a smooth walk or roll through the park for the whole family. Learn more for full details and updated safety protocols for the event.
Monte Creek Winery
We’re dreaming of a white Christmas, or red, or sparkling… heck we aren’t picky. Take in the expansive views of the South Thompson River as you indulge in a wine tasting at Monte Creek Winery, that’s right... they’re open all year. Be sure to pick up a bottle or two (one for you of course) and browse the tasting room for stocking stuffers to gift the wine lover in your life.
Fresh Is Best Salsa Co.
When you’re entertaining, no one wants to be stuck in the kitchen cooking and cleaning the entire time. Keep the eats portion easy with a fun selection from Fresh is Best Salsa Co. We love the tri-coloured Fresh is Best Co. bag of tortilla chips paired with their guacamole, medium salsa, and heck add some nacho cheese while you’re at it! Kick it up a notch with their hot sauce and spicy salsa. For a savoury snack, sprinkle some Fresh is Best taco seasoning on your bowl of buttery popcorn.
CHARCUTERIE AT THE CURE CULINARY
The buzz word of the holidays is “charcuterie”. Cheese and meat and accompaniments…oh my! The Cure Culinary can create you a dream board that will provide eats for the picky eaters, the dairy free eaters, and ensure it pairs perfectly with local wine – (we see you above Monte Creek). Do a double whammy and cross off the foodie on your Christmas list and pick up a gift card, kitchen gadgets, or a charcuterie box they can dive into.
CHECK YOUR LIST IN DOWNTOWN KAMLOOPS
Make your list and check it twice – this will for sure have you feeling like jolly St. Nick. Whether you’re shopping for a music lover, arts & crafter, trendsetter, or someone who has a knack for the best decorated house, venture into downtown Kamloops. Have a coffee in tow from one of the unique cafes or grab a mid-day fuel up at a local restaurant. While you’re walking historic downtown, be sure to admire the window paintings and displays as each block represents a different page out of a storybook.
SLEIGHIN' THE HOLIDAYS ON THE SHORE
The holidays can be a stressful time, but let us help you sleigh it. Knock off your shopping from the array of local shops on the North Shore for the outdoor adventurer, fashionista, baker, and the espresso lover. In between shops, gift your taste buds with savourful and flavourful offerings from local food and beverage stops like specially crafted lattes, International eats, and an innovative craft brew for an aprés treat.
Rest Easy
Have you ever wanted to stay overnight in a true historic building? Now’s your chance. Built in 1928, the Plaza Hotel offers heritage charm yet modern amenities in downtown Kamloops. Avoid the stairs, with a ride in the classic elevator. Recharge from your day of downtown shopping in a heritage room (one double bed), a standard room (two queens) or a luxury room, which features a king bed. Don’t forget to dine into the night at the Tumbleweed Lounge with a glass of local wine or craft beer.
Views galore! With rooms overlooking Riverside Park, the Sandman Centre, and the North Thompson Valley, you’re guaranteed to enjoy your home-away-from home experience at the Sandman Signature Hotel. Take a dunk in the indoor pool before settling into their famously comfy beds – the ideal movie watching spot. Your four-legged family members are also welcome!
Take in the view of Kamloops from up on the hill at Rodeway Inn & Suites. Work up the energy for the day with their continental breakfast before heading for shopping at Aberdeen Mall and grabbing a mid-day fuel up at a variety of nearby restaurants when hunger strikes (we know shopping is hard work!).
