Let's get the show on the road and pop into the Paramount Theatre to catch a flick on the big screen.

The Kamloops Film Society (KFS) at the Paramount Theatre showcases diverse, high-quality films of the best in Independent, Canadian, and foreign cinemas. Grab dinner downtown and then catch a film every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday - on weekends catch a Hollywood blockbuster or independent drama.

With a background in marketing and a passion for film and story-telling, Dusan Magdolen is the Executive Director of the Kamloops Film Society. Born in Slovakia, he grew up in Kamloops after his family relocated while he was in elementary school and he considers Kamloops to be home.

Meet Dusan

“In my role as Executive Director, I look after every aspect of running the Kamloops Film Society, from operations, to marketing, human resources, finances and strategic planning. I love being able to drive the vision of the organization. It’s thrilling to grow the society and establish it as a premiere cultural institution in our community and beyond. I also enjoy getting to do a lot of different things from programming projectors to building a new membership structure.”

"There’s nothing quite like watching a great movie with other film-goers on the big screen, with professional sound, and movie theatre popcorn. I think it's important to unplug and immerse ourselves in a communal, cultural, entertainment experience from time to time. Half watching a movie on demand at home while scrolling through social media on your phone is just not the same experience."

The Kamloops Film Society prides itself on providing curated and responsive programming. "We want the filmgoing experience to be as fun and engaging as possible, so when we can, we provide added value events and experiences to a night at the movies."

The Kamloops Film Society hosts the Thursday Film Series which features the best documentaries from Canada and around the world. "On an average week, we want to be showing that next level of great films that audiences wouldn’t otherwise get to see on the big screen in Kamloops. We’ve also become known for some of our retro film and horror film events." The Paramount Theatre is open, and recommends purchasing tickets in advance for upcoming films.

Ever dreamt about having the whole theatre to yourself for a date night or family fun night? Now's your chance. The Paramount Theatre can privately be booked for families and friends to safely enjoy the experience of the movie theatre with popcorn, drinks, candy, and your own movie selection.

Fun Fact: The KFS worked with Downtown Kamloops (KCBIA) and the Kelson Group to get murals painted on the 5th avenue and back alley walls. Artist Zachary Abney created a beautiful concept and the panels highlight seven films, of which five have a KFS linked story.
