On December 3rd, Tourism Kamloops attended the Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada press conference at the Sandman Centre. An exciting lineup of events was shared and Kamloops’ very own Blazer alumni, Darcy Tucker shared his enthusiasm for the event’s debut in Kamloops via conference call.  Number 16 will return to the Sandman Centre alongside many other Canadian hockey greats such as Lanny McDonald, Mark Recchi, Cassie Campbell-Pascall and several more! Opening ceremonies will kick off at Sun Peaks on Wednesday, February 3rd.

This annual celebration of hockey in Canada, in its 16th year, will be hosted in Kamloops from February 3rd to 6th, 2016, welcoming Canadian hockey commentator legends Don Cherry and Ron McLean and featuring public viewings of the Stanley Cup.  Throughout the event Kamloops will be in the national spotlight.  A 13-hour national broadcast on CBC and Sportsnet, featuring all seven Canadian NHL teams, will air live from Kamloops on Saturday, February 6th. Ron MacLean will host the event, which will feature a special edition of Coach’s Corner live onsite with Don Cherry.  The timing couldn’t be better for Kamloops as the Western Hockey League, which includes the six-time league champion Kamloops Blazers, will also be celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2016.
