Kamloops is a growing wine destination. The first winery opened here in 2012 and over the last 6 years, has grown to include 175 acres under vine, four wineries producing award-winning varietals, and a Kamloops Wine Trail that is quickly attracting the attention of wine aficionados. Here you can skip the crowds, embrace the local hospitality, and explore one of BC’s top emerging wine regions.
Harper's Trail Winery
Harper's Trail Winery was the first winery to open in Kamloops, proving that grapes could not only grow but flourish, in this region of BC. Named after the cattle drive “trail” of pioneer rancher, Thaddeus Harper, this winery sticks to its western roots. Take a seat on their patio and sip on the 2017 Cabernet Franc or Pioneer Block Riesling while taking in panoramic views of the unique hoodoo landscape that Kamloops is known for. If you find yourself in town on a Friday, pack a picnic and kick-off the weekend while listening to local musicians belt out tunes at Field Blend Friday.
Monte Creek Winery
Located just 20 minutes outside Kamloops, Monte Creek Winery is set on a working ranch and home to more than just vines. With a focus on sustainable farming, this property is buzzing with cattle, horses, a bee colony, and two stunning estate vineyards. Enjoy a glass of wine in the tasting room while you browse hand-selected artisan gifts and farm-fresh products perfect for a picnic. Visitors can also treat themselves to an alfresco dining experience at the Terrace Restaurant or take a full vineyard tour. Be sure to try the new vintages, including a 2018 Thompson Valley Riesling and upcoming summer releases like the 2018 Sparkling Rose.
Privato Vineyard & Winery
Privato means private in Italian and Privato Vineyard & Winery offers visitors just that - a unique, intimate, and private winery setting, complete with extensive gardens that sprawl this 80-acre property. Drop-in for a wine tasting paired with a picnic on the grounds. Private garden and vineyard tours can also be arranged for larger groups. New this year is a 2016 Tesoro Pinot Noir, a 2017 Chardonnay, and a North of 50 Estate Pinot Noir, the farthest grown Pinot Noir in North America.
Sagewood Winery is a small family affair with all members working to bring the experience to life. Get up close and personal on the intimate patio at this boutique winery and first vineyard in Kamloops. Sip one of the new releases arriving in the coming weeks: 2018 Riesling, Ortega, Siegerrebe, Gewurztraminer, and Kerner. Tasting room hours are open Saturdays and Sundays from 12-4pm and 7 days a week after May 18th.
