Getting through the tail-end of a Canadian winter takes stamina, so thankfully we’ve got a long weekend in there to help us pull through! Whether there’s a fresh dump of snow or street sweepers on the move, we’ve got options to make the most of your stat. Here are our top nine things to do for Family Day 2025 in Kamloops:
1. Family Day Festival & Toonie Swim

Tournament Capital Centre

Check out the Tournament Capital Centre for the 11th Annual Family Day Festival on February 17th. With booths from a ton of local organizations and businesses, there’s something for the whole crew here. Get your faces painted, bounce it out in the inflatable fun zone, enjoy tasty food from Taste Kitchen and Fryers Express, enjoy live music, and try all sorts of arts, crafts, sports, and science activities. Additionally, the Aquatic Centre will be offering $2 swimming so you can burn off any leftover energy on the waterslide. Speaking of toonies, Valleyview Arena is also offering a $2 public skate from 12:00–1:00 pm and 1:15–2:15 pm on February 17th, registration is required.

If you’d rather get outside, head up to Harper Mountain for Family Day on the slopes. Located only 30 minutes out of town – with affordable ticket prices – Harper is ideal for family ski days. After all, if the kids are burned out by lunch, you’re close to home! If shredding the slopes isn’t your thing, Harper also offers tubing, snowshoeing, and Nordic skiing. Equipment is available to rent, and the lodge kitchen is open for lunch.

BC Wildlife Park

Is a things-to-do-in-Kamloops list complete without a visit to the BC Wildlife Park? This is a great way to spend the day together and support local conservation efforts. The Park is open from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm on stats and can be found just east of Kamloops on Dallas Drive. Animal encounters are a fantastic way to meet some of your favourite reptiles and raptors up close. Join the BC Wildlife Park's knowledgeable educators at the Education Centre at 11:30am, 12:00pm, 1:30pm, and 2:00pm to ask questions and learn about a variety of different reptiles and birds. At 10:30am, explore the unique adaptations and feeding habits of caribou and their role in the ecosystem. At 1:00pm, observe Robert the bobcat during his feeding and learn about his natural behaviors. Finally, at 3:00pm, watch a training session with Ranger, the flying squirrel, and see how positive reinforcement supports his care and enrichment. You can also join the educators at 12:00pm in the Classroom for an interactive enrichment-building session, where you'll have the chance to create offerings for the permanent residents of the BC Wildlife Park. The sheep will also be waiting to say hello at the Home Hardware Family Farm, the mini train ready to take you for a ride around the park as well as a scavenger hunt. Complete the hunt for a chance to win the ultimate prize: an annual pass for 2 adults and 2 children. It’s a fun and educational way to engage with the park and its residents - don’t miss your chance to join the adventure!
