Echoes of the Homesick Heart is a powerful verbatim theatre project that explores one Secwépemc family’s intergenerational journey through language, culture, and community—guided by the trickster figure, Sek̓lép (coyote). Developed from over 40 interviews by Laura Michel across Secwépemc territory, the piece brings real voices and lived experiences to the stage, bridging generations from youth to elders.
Join us for a screening of the 2022 filmed production, followed by a panel discussion featuring:

  • Lori Marchand
  • Merewyn Comeau
  • Jeremy Kneeshaw
  • Janice E. Billy

Also featuring a lobby display by Shay Paul and the Indigenous Resurgence Project, and a sister event at the Kamloops Art Gallery on June 21.All proceeds support the Echoes of the Homesick Heart Bursary for emerging Secwépemc scholars dedicated to language reclamation. Rooted in reciprocity and cultural revitalization, it reflects a commitment to responsible, community-driven research.
