Project X Theatre is a small-but-determined theatre company making art in the heart of downtown Kamloops. They are dedicated to supporting the development of local theatre artists - right here at home.

Every summer, they produce a family-friendly outdoor theatre festival, now called Theatre Under the Trees. Sprouting annually in the corner of Prince Charles Park, the festival has become a Kamloops tradition, delighting countless families and nuturing the talents of hundreds of local artists.

2025 Shows

Thumbelina

Tiny Thumbelina has always felt out of place in her protective mother's big world... until the day she finally hears about people just like her - fairies! Soon, Thumbelina finds herself lost in the woods and caught in the middle of an ageless conflict between the Fairies and the Toads, with Thumbelina herself as a bargaining chip. It will take all of Thumbelina's creativity, wit, and skill with a sword to find her way home again.

This campy and adventurous world premiere by local emerging playwright Jakob Kopytko will be directed by Kaleidoscope Theatre for Young People's Pat Rundell*.

  • Best for: ages 6+
  • Running time: approximately 2 hours, with an intermission
  • Content information: Thumbelina is based on the Hans Christian Andersen fairytale and therefore features themes of marriage and consent.

The Emporer's New Threads

The always-fashionable Emperor is in desperate need of a new outfit to wear to the Royal Procession and has absolutely no idea what to do! Enter Felix Saggenbottom and Cornelius Phibbs, two down-on-their-luck tricksters who promise that they will make a look so incredible that only those who are "good at their jobs" can see it. Wanting to impress, the whole town pretends to see what isn't there - everyone, that is, except one very smart kid.

This very silly story won awards across Canada on it's premiere tour. Our production will be directed by local comedy duo Robin Nichol* and Jessica Buchanan.

  • Best for: ages 3+
  • Running time: appoximately 60 minutes
  • Content information: Tricks and silly adults
