Project X Theatre is a small-but-determined theatre company making art in the heart of downtown Kamloops. They are dedicated to supporting the development of local theatre artists - right here at home.

Every summer, they produce a family-friendly outdoor theatre festival, now called Theatre Under the Trees. Sprouting annually in the corner of Prince Charles Park, the festival has become a Kamloops tradition, delighting countless families and nuturing the talents of hundreds of local artists.

2026 Shows

Robin Hood

Deep in Sherwood Forest hides Robin Hood and his band of misfit outlaws, famous for stealing from the rich to give to the poor. In his fight for justice, Robin Hood dodges the dastardly Sheriff of Nottingham, falls for the feisty Maid Marian, and steals into our imagination. Filled with swordfights and disguises, Greg Banks' adaptation moves fast and furious through the Old English legend, celebrating defiance in the face of greed.

This big and bold adventure story will be directed by Project X Theatre Artistic Producer Randi Edmundson.

  • Best for: ages 6+
  • Running time: approximately 90 minutes, with an intermission
  • Content information: pretend violence and sword fighting

The Paper Bag Princess

Elizabeth is not your average princess. She's much more comfortable practicing dragon defence strategies than studying her "Princessiples". So, when a dragon smashes her castle and carries off Prince Ronald, she'll do whatever it takes to bring him back! Based on the beloved Robert Munsch classic and featuring an expanded cast of characters, Alissa Watson's new adaptation shows that amazing things are possible when you believe in yourself.

This fun and fast-paced new Canadian play will be directed by Kamloops' own Amy Baskin.

  • Best for: ages 3+
  • Running time: approximately 60 minutes
