Press Release - Kamloops Residents Affirm Strong Support for Tourism and Inspire Future Growth

New survey results reveal strong local pride in Kamloops’ visitor economy and clear support for thoughtful tourism development

Kamloops, B.C. — July 15, 2025 — Tourism Kamloops is proud to share the results of its 2025 Resident Survey, which highlight the community’s strong belief in tourism’s value and an openness to future growth. With 94% of respondents affirming that tourism is an important local industry, the findings reinforce the city’s growing reputation as a vibrant, welcoming destination that benefits both the community and those who come to experience it.
“Kamloops is clearly a community that understands the power of tourism,” says Erik Fisher, CEO of Tourism Kamloops. “These results validate the strategic investments we’ve made and the collaborative approach we take with partners and residents alike.”
Residents signalled strong enthusiasm for continued tourism development. 87% believe Tourism Kamloops should advocate for new experiences and infrastructure. 78% agree that attracting more live music and events would positively impact their quality of life. Waterfront investments (75%) and a future convention centre (78%) also earned broad support, seen as opportunities to create lasting community benefit.
Survey respondents also expressed deep confidence in the collaborative efforts that shape Kamloops’ visitor experience. A remarkable 91% agreed that partnerships between Tourism Kamloops and the City have a positive impact on tourism. Equally encouraging, 87% believe tourism helps create a more vibrant and welcoming community, while 83% feel that investments in beautification, events, and placemaking initiatives directly enhance their quality of life. These results show that Kamloops locals don’t just support tourism—they see themselves as part of it.

Beyond its economic value, tourism plays a vital role in shaping Kamloops into a place people are proud to call home. From trail networks to public events, the visitor economy supports amenities and experiences that locals enjoy every day. The survey results reinforce this, with a majority of residents agreeing that tourism investments contribute to a more livable, connected city—where both locals and guests enjoy the same vibrant, well-loved spaces.
Tourism Kamloops was excited to see a 40% increase in polling numbers over 2024 and is grateful for those who took the time to contribute their perspectives. These insights are essential as the organization continues to advocate for responsible development, create authentic experiences, and deliver real value for both visitors and locals.
