The heart of any great city is its people, the ones who show up every day, care deeply about their work, and quietly make a difference. In Kamloops, Aruni Dodangoda is one of those people.
As a Housekeeping Supervisor at Scott’s Inn, Aruni represents the often-unseen heroes of the hospitality industry. For the past year and a half, she's been ensuring that guests experience the comfort, care, and attention to detail that makes a stay in Kamloops memorable. It's the kind of work that requires dedication, leadership, and a genuine commitment to excellence, qualities Aruni brings to the role every single day.
Aruni's journey to Kamloops began as an international student at Thompson Rivers University. Like so many who come here to study, she discovered something special about this city, something that made her want to stay. After completing her studies at TRU, she transitioned into the tourism industry, bringing fresh perspective and a strong work ethic to Kamloops' hospitality scene.
We're excited to spotlight a Kamloops champion like Aruni!
TK: Aruni, how did you first get into the tourism industry?
"After my studies at TRU."
Aruni's path into hospitality came naturally after her time as a student. Her educational foundation at TRU gave her the skills and confidence to build a career in tourism, and she's been contributing to Kamloops' reputation for warm hospitality ever since.
TK: What fuels you? What drives your passion for the work you do?
"Improving the guest experience."
It's a simple answer, but it speaks volumes. In an industry where the details matter, where a perfectly made bed, a spotless room, and thoughtful touches can transform someone's entire stay, Aruni understands that her work directly impacts how visitors experience Kamloops. As a supervisor, she leads her team with this guest-first mentality, ensuring that every room meets the high standards travelers expect and deserve.
Her leadership extends beyond operations. Aruni's goal is clear: to reach a position where she can meet her own expectations while helping others grow in the industry. It's the mark of a true leader, someone who measures success not just by personal achievement, but by the ability to lift others up along the way.
TK: On your day off, what's your favourite thing to do in Kamloops?
"To hang around with friends."
For Aruni, Kamloops offers the perfect setting for connection and community. It's that sense of belonging, of building relationships and creating memories, that makes a place feel like home.
TK: What makes Kamloops stand out for you?
"Kamloops is vibrant at the same time calm and quiet which makes me in love of Kamloops."
Aruni captures something essential about this city, that rare balance between energy and ease. For someone who came here as an international student and chose to build her life and career here, that duality is part of what makes Kamloops special. There's vibrancy in the community, culture, and opportunities, yet there's also space to breathe, to connect, and to enjoy a quality of life that feels authentic.
For travelers staying in Kamloops, chances are someone like Aruni has touched your experience, ensuring your room is welcoming, your stay is comfortable, and your visit reflects the care and pride this community takes in its hospitality.
