This round, we introduce Stephen Maricle, owner of Maricle Fly Fishing Adventures, a lifelong Kamloops local who has turned his passion for fishing into a career that showcases the region’s incredible freshwater lakes.
TK: Thanks for sharing your story with us, Stephen! What drives your passion for the work you do?
"I love fishing and sharing this passion with other people," Stephen says. That love for the sport and deep knowledge of Kamloops' aquatic ecosystems make his guided tours more than just a day on the water—they’re an immersive experience in the heart of BC’s lake country.
And Stephen isn’t just another fishing guide—he’s an expert in his field! Before launching his business, he served as the Provincial Senior Fisheries Biologist for the Thompson Region, where he played a pivotal role in managing some of Canada’s top fisheries.
With over 50 years in Kamloops, he’s seen firsthand how the region has become a premier destination for anglers worldwide.
TK: Love that you’ve been in Kamloops for so long! Why Kamloops?
“It’s an awesome place to live and raise a family,” Stephen shared. The tight-knit community, central location, and natural beauty keep him hooked on Kamloops—just like the fish he helps his clients catch.
For Stephen, staying in Kamloops was never a question. With its unparalleled access to lakes, rivers, and outdoor spaces, the city provides an ideal backdrop for both work and play. Whether he’s leading clients on a fishing excursion or hunting in the surrounding hills, Stephen embodies the adventurous spirit that defines Kamloops.
TK: What’s been a highlight in your tourism career?
“I’ve managed some of the greatest fisheries Canada has to offer,” Stephen shares. “It’s rewarding to now change focus and introduce new anglers to this amazing resource.”
After years of working to protect and manage local fisheries, Stephen transitioned into guiding, eager to bring more people into the world of fly fishing. Eight years later, his company has introduced countless visitors to Kamloops’ renowned lake fisheries, ensuring they not only land a great catch but also learn about conservation, fish habitats, and the delicate balance that keeps these waters thriving.
TK: So, Stephen — what’s next for you?
“Continue to develop my business and introduce tourists to our amazing lake fisheries," Stephen said. As fly fishing gains popularity, he’s eager to showcase why Kamloops is a must-visit destination for anglers of all skill levels.
