International Growth Drives Visitor Momentum
June's visitor data demonstrates strong peak-season momentum across Kamloops' key markets, with total visitation reaching 113,867 trips—a 7.6% increase year over year. While Canadian travellers continue to provide a dependable volume base, the story of June is defined by explosive growth in high-value external markets and exceptional engagement quality across digital channels.
The international story is particularly striking, with trips nearly doubling at +98.9% year over year (7,265 trips). This expansion was anchored by remarkable gains in core European and long-haul markets, with the United Kingdom (+184.2% to 1,800 trips) and Germany (+348.6% to 1,800 trips) joining Australia (1,000 trips) to supply 63% of all international visits. In the U.S., while traditional drive markets softened slightly, fly-in demand picked up the slack with impressive strength from Texas (+107.5%), Florida (+65.2%), Arizona (+31.1%), and California (+19.7%). These external travellers stay significantly longer—averaging 3.7 nights per trip for international visitors—delivering disproportionate economic value to local operators.
On the domestic front, Canadian visitation grew 3.5% to 99,506 trips, with total Canadian visitor nights rising even faster at 8.9% (181,388 nights)—making Canada the only market where average stay length lengthened year over year. Regional demand showed strong energy: Alberta delivered 15,800 trips (+19.8%), fueled by a massive 62.1% surge from Calgary. Key Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley cities also posted substantial gains, led by Delta (+206.9%), Burnaby (+100.5%), and Surrey (+52.6%).
Summer Experiences, Strong Accommodation Performance
Where are these summer visitors spending their time? Recreation facilities dominated location-of-interest activity in June, capturing a commanding 50% of all tracked visits. Casinos represented 20% of activity, while golf courses, large gathering venues, and cultural locations (museums and galleries) accounted for 10% each. This points to a clear seasonal appetite for outdoor recreation and active summer experiences across visitor segments.
In local accommodations, high summer demand pushed occupancy to a robust 80.8%. Driven by healthy pricing power, Average Daily Rate (ADR) rose 5.1% to $200.55, pushing Revenue Per Available Room (RevPAR) up 4.9% to $162.15 and generating $15.96 million in total hospitality revenue for the month. With occupancy near peak capacity during summer weekends, revenue growth is successfully being realized through rate optimization.
Digital Engagement Signals Stronger Visitor Intent
The digital picture reinforces what the accommodation data suggests: an audience that is choosing Kamloops with higher intent. While overall web traffic normalized, user engagement reached record quality: average session duration jumped 38.3% to 2 minutes and 39 seconds, bounce rate improved by 25.0% to 41.13%, and the proportion of engaged web sessions surged from 45% to 59%. On social media, organic engagement rate grew 20.4% to 0.9%, proving that online audiences are connecting more deeply with Kamloops content as summer gets underway.
Overall, June’s data showcases a destination attracting visitors who stay longer, spend more per night, and interact more intentionally. With strong international momentum, deepening regional loyalty, and record-high room rates, Kamloops enters peak summer in a position of distinct strength.
