Organization
Tourism Kamloops was founded in 2005 as the official destination marketing organization for the City of Kamloops and its accommodation industry. The organization established Kamloops' reputation as Canada's Tournament Capital and launched Golf Kamloops, which grew destination golf revenues from $40,000 to nearly $1 million within four years.
Subsequent leaders guided Tourism Kamloops through the pandemic era while strengthening community partnerships. In 2020, the organization partnered with Thompson Rivers University to establish the Tourism Innovation Lab, supporting local tourism entrepreneurship. The Destination Events Support Fund and Luv'n the Loops program further deepened connections between visitors and local businesses.
Erik Fisher became CEO in May 2024, launching the "Room to Roam" brand refresh and introducing the Freeride Fund to support mountain bike trail maintenance. Under his leadership, Tourism Kamloops has shifted from marketing what exists to building what's next. In October 2025, the organization unveiled the Iconic Structure Campaign, inviting developers and investors to co-create three feasibility-validated attractions. Backed by CBRE market studies, the campaign reflects a bold bet on Kamloops' potential as a destination that deserves landmark infrastructure. The organization also achieved Biosphere Certification in 2025. Today, Tourism Kamloops operates with a team of 12 staff, working alongside industry partners, the City of Kamloops, and Tk'emlúps te Secwépemc to build a visitor economy that benefits the entire community.

In 2019, she helped launch Luv'n the Loops, a mystery bus tour program designed to help residents discover their own city's hidden gems. The program brought over 300 people on tours across 12 months and partnered with 65 local businesses before evolving into the Loops Explorer Pass during the pandemic. Story Ideas
In the 1990s, Kamloops riders helped pioneer freeride mountain biking, pushing the boundaries of what was possible on two wheels. Today, that legacy lives on through 200+ kilometres of trails, the Kamloops Bike Ranch (Canada's largest municipal bike park), and a new generation of riders drawn to the same rugged terrain that started it all. The Freeride Fund, launched in 2025, channels visitor contributions directly into trail maintenance, ensuring the riding remains world-class for decades to come.
Kamloops sits on the traditional territory of the Tk'emlúps te Secwépemc, whose presence here stretches back thousands of years. Visitors can explore this living history through the Secwépemc Museum and Heritage Park, which features a 2,000-year-old winter village archaeological site, or join Moccasin Trails for guided cultural journeys led by local Knowledge Keepers. The annual Kamloopa Powwow, one of Western Canada's largest Indigenous celebrations, draws over 20,000 spectators each June.
Kamloops hosts over 100 sporting events annually, earning its reputation as Canada's Tournament Capital. World-class facilities, an enthusiastic volunteer base, and a central location make the city a natural choice for everything from youth hockey tournaments to national championships. The economic impact extends well beyond the playing field, filling hotels, restaurants, and local businesses throughout the year.
With over 100 lakes within an hour's drive and more than one million fish stocked annually, Kamloops has earned its title as the Stillwater Fly Fishing Capital of North America. The region's nutrient-rich lakes produce trophy-sized rainbow trout, drawing anglers from around the world. For many, a trip to Kamloops means quiet mornings on the water, surrounded by rolling grasslands and the kind of solitude that's increasingly hard to find.
With over 2,000 hours of annual sunshine and a semi-arid climate, Kamloops offers one of Canada's longest golf seasons. Ten courses, including eight championship layouts, wind through desert canyons, along river valleys, and up into the highlands. GreenTee Country Club Tobiano, ranked #31 in Canada and named the country's best in 2020, delivers dramatic cliffside views of Kamloops Lake. For many Alberta and BC golfers, Kamloops has become the go-to destination for early spring and late fall rounds when courses elsewhere have closed.
Kamloops' food and drink scene reflects its geography: local wineries crafting cool-climate varietals, craft breweries drawing inspiration from the surrounding landscape, and farm-to-table restaurants showcasing ingredients from nearby ranches and farms. Taste Around Kamloops, held each January, invites visitors to explore the city's culinary diversity through a self-guided tasting tour of 20+ restaurants.
Tourism Kamloops' "Room to Roam" brand captures what sets the destination apart: wide-open landscapes, uncrowded trails, and the freedom to explore at your own pace. In a travel market increasingly defined by overtourism and crowded hotspots, Kamloops offers something different. Here, visitors find space to breathe, connect, and discover a destination that feels both accessible and undiscovered.
Just 45 minutes from downtown Kamloops, Sun Peaks Resort is Canada's second-largest ski area by terrain. With 4,270 acres of skiable terrain and an average of 600 centimetres of annual snowfall, it rivals destinations twice its profile. The difference? Shorter lift lines, a pedestrian-only village, and the kind of relaxed atmosphere that keeps families and powder seekers coming back.
