The Kamloops Festival of the Performing Arts unofficially started in February 1930 by a group of businessmen and one woman who met to discuss the possibility of a musical festival for Kamloops. Many meetings were held, sometimes with as many as fifty people present. The first festival was realized in May, 1931. Since then it has gone through many ups and downs and now lasts almost 3 weeks with some days having three halls in use! The Festival certainly has a decidedly important role to play in the cultural growth of out city, giving young artists the possibility to explore and expose their widespread talents.
